UF Libraries Technology Expo

 

Come see exciting new and old technologies from the UF Libraries at the UF Libraries Technology Expo!

 

When: Tuesday, April 15th from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Where: First Floor of the Smathers Library

 

The Expo will feature hands-on tutorials and guided tours for technologies from the UF Libraries, including:

• UF Libraries' Toolbar

  A web toolbar for even easier access to the Libraries' services

• LibGuides for students and teachers

  Class and subject guides tailored to easily match resources @the Libraries to your needs

• Videos from the UF Libraries

  See videos made and held @the Libraries, including UF Archive videos and InfoZombies

• Activities

  Take part in fun activities that help improve the Libraries, like "Design your fantasy library technology"

• New UF Research Directory

  See a prototype of the new UF Research Directory. This directory will highlight research taking place on campus and will increase interdepartmental collaborations

• The Technology Graveyard

  See dead and undead technologies--if you're wondering how a punch card computer or a microfilm reader works, don't miss this!

• Games in the Libraries

  See what the Libraries are doing with SecondLife, Bioactive, and game events like Guitar Hero

• 3D navigation and Design Tools

  New technology needs in curricula have led the Library to offer Geowall, graphic design and 3D design software, and others.

• And so much more!

  The Expo includes guest speakers from the Digital Worlds Institute (10-10:30am) and Chris Sessums from the College of Education (1:30-2pm on Blogging and 2-2:30pm on Social Networking). Come see what the Libraries have to offer!

In addition to the other events, running from 10-3, guest speakers will cover specific topics at special times:

• 10-10:30: Learn about UF's Digital Worlds
• 10:40-11: Learn about the Black Studies Center 
• 12-12:30: Enjoy the Read-a-thon
• 12:30-1: Enjoy the Read-a-thon
• 1-1:30: Learn about LibGuides
• 1:30-2: Learn about Blogging for teaching and research from guest speaker Chris Sessums
• 2-2:30: Learn about Social Bookmarking for teaching and research from guest speaker  - Chris Sessums
• 2:30-3: Enjoy the Read-a-thon
